Rhode Island’s Global Engagement: Embracing International Events and Opportunities

Rhode Island is actively embracing global events to enhance its economy and cultural vibrancy. With the FIFA World Cup approaching, the state has launched initiatives to capitalize on the influx of international visitors and attention.

FIFA World Cup Fan Zone in Providence

Providence has been approved by FIFA to host an official World Cup fan zone, the PVD Fan Zone, from June 11 through July 19. Located in Station Park, this venue will feature watch parties, live music, interactive games, food vendors, and a professionally staffed bar. Additionally, a stadium express transportation service to and from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough will be available, facilitating access to the matches. This initiative aims to serve as a regional hub for soccer fans and boost local businesses during the tournament period. Source

Hosting International Teams

In addition to fan engagement, Rhode Island is directly involved in the tournament by hosting international teams. The Ghanaian men’s soccer team will train at Bryant University in Smithfield, providing local communities with opportunities to engage with global athletes and cultures. Source
