The Department of Sustainability, also known as SustainPVD, leads the city’s efforts toward environmental stewardship. Regenerative Economy and Zero Waste
Providence is committed to building a sustainable, zero-waste economy. The city aims to eliminate food waste by 2040 and contaminated recycling by 2030. Initiatives include exploring city-wide community composting programs and other food waste reduction strategies. Stormwater Innovation Center
To address stormwater challenges, the Stormwater Innovation Center (SIC) was established as a collaborative initiative between the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, The Nature Conservancy, and the City of Providence Parks Department. SIC focuses on improving water quality and stormwater management through green infrastructure projects, professional training, and community science programs.
